The sauna strengthens immunity and prolongs life makes us happy. Frequent visit to the sauna can prolong life by reducing the risk of death from heart disease, a new study said.
The study was published in the journal Journal of the American Medical Association and quoted by France Press and Associated Press. More than 2,300 men aged between 42 and 60 were involved in the study.
The study period was 21 years, the researchers said. Visiting the sauna two or three times a week reduces the risk of myocardial infarction by 22 per cent.
If a person walks more often in the sauna – between 4 and 7 times a week, he will reduce the risk by 63%. The study also mentions how the sauna affects people who have coronary artery damage.
The risk of death due to this disease is 23% less if the sauna is visited two to three times a week and 48% if it goes between 4 and 7 times.
Visits two to three times a week reduce the risk of premature death by about 24 per cent and 40 per cent if they go to the sauna 4 to 7 times a week, the authors of the study said.

The time that a person spends in the sauna is also important, experts note. The risk of myocardial infarction is seven per cent lower for people who spend between 11-19 minutes in the sauna compared to those who have less time.
If a person stays in the sauna for even more than 19 minutes, this will reduce the risk of heart attack by 52 percent, the results show.
At this stage, scientists can not explain the relationship between cardiovascular status and frequent visits to the sauna. Further research is needed on this issue.
Other specialists are convinced that in case of heart or blood problems, one must consult a doctor before entering the sauna. Past studies have shown that the sauna increases immunity, and also has a detoxifying effect.
